I visited the North Carolina State Fair a couple of week ago. While the deep fat fried pecan pie was delicious, the highlight had to be the giant fruit and vegetable competitions.
First up was the 1st prize ribbon for the largest sweet potato, something we take seriously here in North Carolina. The winner weighed in at 10.89 pounds. This is about 70 pounds shy of the world record 81.56 pounds.
A giant fruit and vegetable competition wouldn’t be complete without the giant pumpkins. The state fair winner weighed in at 522.25 pounds. The current record world record holder, as we discussed before, is 2009 pounds. However, this should not distract from shear awesomeness of a 500 pound pumpkin.
The 1st place ribbon for the largest watermelon went to a 192.4 pound beast. Interestingly the prettiest melon award went to a watermelon well over 100 pounds. Take a look at the beauty below. Largest watermelon? 268.8 pounds and from my home state of Arkansas.
